Sadly, on September 26th 2017 at St. Francis Hospice in Romford, Essex, the wonderful Jerimiah Marques passed away. Thankfully, his unique interpretation of the blues lives on through the recordings he made with The Blue Aces – released as the album “Winning Hand”.
He was born in Guyana in the early 1950’s and was resident in the U.K since the age of eleven. As a teenager, he saw Muddy Waters and his band in a London club and developed a lasting connection with the sound and emotional allure of the Chicago Blues.
He performed at countless clubs and music festivals in many countries, to the delight of fans and journalists winning the nationally televised “Banks Best of British Blues Contest” hosted by Jools Holland and judged by Mike Vernon.
On “Winning Hand”, Jerimiah was backed by his regular accompanists of many years standing, The Blue Aces! The material was drawn from the stage repertoire on which his reputation was built. Everything you hear was recorded live in the studio and conveys the excitement and commitment that made Jerimiah Marques and the Blue Aces one of the most in demand and rebooked acts on the UK Blues scene:
